Caseload management begins with identifying all individuals associated with the case, including investigators, prosecutors and laboratory personnel. Best practices for individuals managing casework include the following:

  • Establish a database containing all case information
  • Identify and document case assignments
    (investigative agent(s), prosecutor(s) and laboratory personnel)
  • Clearly and consistently document all case information
  • Include a comprehensive case summary
  • Ensure proper evidence tracking
  • Monitor and document evidence processing progress
    - Suspect identification
    - Final disposition
  • Establish an automatic case notification process
