Local DNA Index System (LDIS)

A local laboratory (e.g., Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Crime Laboratory) can maintain its own local database of forensic profiles and upload approved profiles to Florida's SDIS. A local laboratory is responsible for the entry and search of all DNA profiles at the LDIS level. Local laboratories can set their own policies and procedures, which may be less strict than those set at the state and national levels.

State-operated forensic laboratories are responsible for all DNA profiles entered and searched at the SDIS level. Local laboratories seeking to participate at the SDIS level sign a memorandum of understanding with the state laboratory documenting their agreement to abide by the policies and procedures established by the state laboratory; only those profiles meeting the state-established criteria can be uploaded to the SDIS.
